At Last a Sanitary Butterfly Valve Able to Function under Full Vacuum
Traditionally stainless steel hygienic Butterfly valves used for full vacuum applications in the Pharmaceutical, Food, Chemical and Cosmetics industries tend to be large, heavy, complicated and inconvenient to strip down for cleaning and, in general, do not conform to cGMP standards. Sanitary valves designed to cGMP standards tend not to perform well in applications where they are exposed to vacuum conditions, especially in the open position, as the seal can become dislodged due to the vacuum.
The Solution
By utilizing the new design advantages offered by the patented Clamshell™ clamp design, Mucon believes that they have a genuine sanitary valve able to function under full vacuum without any adverse effects.
The valve body design ensures that the sealing arrangements are fully resistant to vacuum. Consequently, there is no possibility for the vacuum to dislodge the seal in the open position.
Furthermore, the innovative FDA compliant silicone seal design ensures that opening torque is kept to a minimum.
The Mucon Oyster™ Compact VP Butterfly valve is precision machined with all product contact surfaces mirror polished in AISI 316L stainless steel to full pharmaceutical specifications. The valve is supplied as standard with Tri-Clover mating ferrules.
Alternatively, the Clamshell™ clamp design option can be selected. This enables fast, tool-free strip down and reassembly of the valve in a few seconds. The range consists of 6” (150mm), 8” (200mm) and 10” (250mm) valves which are either manually operated or configured for automatic operation.
The Result
Many process installations use vacuum for the transportation of powders within the Pharmaceutical, Food, Chemical and Cosmetics industries. In the past, this often required some degree of compromise when selecting a suitable hygienic valve for this application.
Now, at last, there is a genuine hygienic valve which is suitable for use in vacuum applications.
